Gwenllian Memorial at Hafod Eryri, Snowdon!

Following a very constructive meeting held on Tuesday 14th August 2007 at Snowdonia National Park’s Headquarters, between three officials from the Park's Authority and three representatives of the Princess Gwenllian Society, a promise was made that the Society would be able to erect the beautiful memorial stone, designed and crafted by the renowned calligrapher Ieuan Rees, on a rock very near to the summit of Snowdon.

This was great news following the initial disappointment of being told that the memorial could not be erected in ‘Hafod Eryri’, the new building near the summit.

In May 2018, it was made known to the Society that this slate plaque commemorating Gwenllian had been stolen. The slate was eventually discovered a few weeks later, damaged beyond repair halfway down the mountain. Gary Eccleston, the slate craftsman from Prestatyn offered to design and place a new slate plaque in the original site. He gifted his work and the plaque to the Society. It is a very fine and worthy memorial. It was taken to the summit by Snowdon Railway and secured in place on September 15th, 2018.
