Visit Gwenllian's Memorial

Original photograph by Richard Croft
About half way between Pointon and Billingborough in Lincolnshire, on the B1177 (OS Landranger Map 130, Grid Reference TF 109 326) a cart track leads westwards towards Saint Andrew's Church (referred to as "Sempringham Abbey" by local people) which incorporates parts of the original building. The memorial stands beside a small bridge just where the track turns right.

The site is where the red arrow is pointing towards on this map.

A convenient place to eat is The Fortesque Arms, Billingborough.
There is a display about Gwenllian in the church.
You can get the key by phoning the Church Tourist Contact: 01529 240 260.
The Memorial

A Welsh granite boulder bearing an inscription by the internationally acclaimed calligrapher Ieuan Rees. Only after it had been chosen in the quarry and set upright did the silhouette of a nun reveal itself.
Heartfelt thanks to all the local people who voluntarily take such good care of the site! |
